Properties It is an enzyme that regulates β-carotene through pathway usage and biology. CrtE encodes GGPP synthetase. GGPP synthetase can produce phytoene under the action of phytoene synthase. After a continuous dehydrogenation reaction, phytoene forms lycopene, and under the action of several enzymes, it can produce β-carotene [1].
